Decks

Is a deck in your future? Building a quality deck can add beauty and value to your home. It is often a sought-after feature of potential buyers and an ideal entertainment space promising hours of fun with family and neighbors. Before you picture yourself relaxing atop your new deck, consider the following. Will this extension to your home suit your specific needs and stand the test of time? Picking the right material for your location, budget, and lifestyle should be a priority. With our trademark customer service, Tandem is here to direct you as you make your choice.

Everything is included in your deck build, from drawings to completion. Our 3 decking options are:

Composite decking

is a man-made building material that is a fast-growing, wood deck alternative. It is composed of an equal mix of recycled wood fibers and recycled plastic. One of the most durable decking products today, it is warrantied up to 25 to 30 years and is rot, insect, stain, fade, mold, and weather resistant unlike wood decking. Desirable for its low maintenance, composite decking requires only a semi-annual cleaning. The need for sanding, staining, and painting is eliminated. Today’s composite material looks like real wood, can be curved and is available in many colors, styles, and finishes. A more expensive option than wood, composite decking is a sound investment and makes up for its cost over time because of its low maintenance. We offer WOLF and TREX products.

PVC decking

is composed entirely of Polyvinyl chloride (PVC). It contains no wood, and continues to be a top contender when choosing a deck material because it offers the most significant warranties against fading, staining, and mold. PVC is a more expensive choice than other decking products because of its lower maintenance requirements. For these reasons, it is an excellent option around a pool and salt water. PVC offers a boost for the environment since it, like composite, is made from recycled materials. Today’s PVC decks look like real wood minus the splinters, and come in different textures and colors. Under normal use, you can enjoy your deck for 30 years. Tandem offers AZEC PVC products.

Wood decking

is still a popular choice today despite the high maintenance needed to keep that new-deck look. Expect to clean, stain, and seal your deck often. Many homeowners agree that the natural beauty of wood is unmatched. The warmth of its color and grain enhances a deck and makes it a more natural fit into the landscape. If you choose natural wood, select one that is both weather and insect resistant. Cedar and pressure-treated wood are both good choices because they retain less moisture. Expense varies, with cedar as a mid-range price and pressure-treated lumber being the least expensive. South American woods such as Ipe (Ironwood) are at the top of the price spectrum. If price is your concern, wood can be your cheaper option overall, and when maintained properly, your wood deck can last from 20 to 50 years.
